Every day, with every episode, I think I fall a little more in love with Alex Karev. Which is somewhat disturbing. Because just by acknowledging this, I have accepted the fact that the more difficult, broody, damaged and just-plain-bad a boy is, the more I'll be interested in him. Some of it is - ofcourse - the age old lure of trying to figure out what makes them tick. And then there's the unsurprising desire to 'fix'. It's a somewhat maternal urge that says: come, let me take care of you. Add to that an impulse to be 'the one'. The woman that this impossible man just cannot resist. The one he's compelled to be 'good' to because the alternative would hurt him more than it would hurt her (and in a fairy-tale - or soap opera - kind of life, it would).

But here's the deal: I know by now that the damaged ones are the most dangerous because they think it's their god given right (by virtue of past pain) to be a bastard to those who care. Once-upon-a-time when they were young and naive, they would undoubtedly have made perfect partners. But then life happened to them and now they really couldn't give less of a shit about how much you're willing to give them. In fact, taking is what they do best. They're amusing, and they're charming (when-they-want-to-be) but they're hardly potential for anything worthwhile.

Even then, I'd still go for the damaged ones. Textbook case of masochism I be.

*sigh*

Well he does end up marrying Izzie. You have to give him that. :)

Haha, yea. Married and divorced. Which makes him doubly damaged. Ergo, doubly attractive. Sigh. Woe-is-me :P

The desire to care and change is one explanation.
Another : The bad-guys might have the alpha male thing going for them, ergo testosterone, ergo better mating prospect, ergo Xeb loves Alex.

P.S. Who on earth is Alex Karev? I won't Google.

Not that yours truly knows or falls into such category of 'gentlemen'. Still yours truly believes that this thrashing (read stereotyping) of good men is uncalled for. Such breed of men, if it exists is not only 'difficult, broody, damaged and just-plain-bad a boy' but they also have a wicked sense of humor and are mean assessing machines of emotions and are never afraid to respond to anything much. Yours truly would like to give these men their due credit, as aware these 'gentlemen' of their powers over others and yet they choose not to exploit and manipulate the fairer sex (to the extents they are capable of i.e. the 'gentlemen').
TiVo serials usually call such men as 'thinking women's sex symbols'. That is sorts fair. Regarding the urge to 'fix' things, it depends entirely upon time or anything in the world can be rationalized. So yours truly would recommend you to keep falling for these 'gentlemen' or 'gentleman' for opposites attract and thats how nature works.

R: Try sidereel

Anon: Err, I lost yours truly somewhere in the middle of that. But I get the point: keep going for damaged ones, eventually (after all the mind-fucks) one ought to be worth it.

kt: :P

Deepak: Alex is a character from Grey's Anatomy. As you may have guessed, he's one of the more fucked-up-ones but with surprising depth (says the besotted one). Point is, he's become quite fascinating lately.

oo I missed the divorce. Haven't caught up on Greys recently.

The divorce was a long time ago! I suggest you brush up on the rest of this season, or this blog may just keep throwing you unwelcome spoilers! :P

Another hard too-close-to home truth! I hate the irony life persists in enjoying, you meet them when they are past redemption and the worst thing is the bitch who always figures prominently in a star role in the turning them into what they are story!
