"Lahore, Aug 1 (PTI) At least nine persons died today in police firing and violent clashes between Muslims and the minority Christian community in Pakistan's Punjab province following the alleged desecration of the holy Quran.

Hundreds of Muslims gathered this morning and marched towards Christian homes at Azafi Abadi village, 160 km from Lahore. Witnesses said at least three persons were killed and some others injured when police fired at a mob that was trying to forcibly enter the homes of Christians.

The bodies of six Christians three women, two children and a man were pulled out of houses that were set alight by the mob. Officials said they feared the toll could rise as the rubble of some 70 burnt houses is yet to be cleared.

Eighteen people, including policemen, were injured in the clashes between the two groups. The mob also looted over 100 houses."

What a bloody shame that the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is unable to maintain any pretext of religious tolerance. Proselityzing religious sanctification, it seems, is much more important than preserving simple humanity. And why-ever-not since human life is so very cheap where we come from. So cheap that all it takes is a percieved slight to destroy countless families, blithely initiate slaughter and carnage and then walk away from it all with no threat of punishment. But this is what we deserve I suppose for not understanding that our religion abhors those who victimize others, to kill without compunction, to destroy and to massacre. And yet, Muslims around the world are turning into cannibals feeding human flesh to growing fundamentalism. It's sad, and its scary, and as-with-all-things-Pakistani we really have no one to blame but ourselves.

We as a people have forgotten that Islam equates the taking of even one human life unjustly, with the killing of all of humanity.

Punjab govt will do absolutely nothing ofcourse, and the federal govt will issue empty apologies. The cycle will continue and the Land of the Pure will continue on its path to complete unpurity :(
